Inter+Play is a three-part exhibition that celebrates the tenth anniversary of Arts Towada, the city-wide initiative that promotes art throughout the city of Towada and along its main thoroughfare of Kanchogai Avenue. The architecture firm ASSISTANT is pleased to announce the completion of the house IT IS A GARDEN in Nagano, Japan. Surrounding and surrounded by the trees and plants of the forest, the house was designed as a guest house containing a private art gallery for the owner’s collection. Its shape being flat and square, the one-story house has a floor plan entirely defined by five courtyards alone. Seeing Red is a performance piece initiated and directed by Takayuki Fujimoto, choreographed by Jung Young Doo. Scenography by Megumi Matsubara. Performance will premiere in Yokohama, Japan in December 2014. The title is taken from Nicholas Humphrey’s book that explores the sensation created by the act of seeing red. What’s involved in “seeing red”? “Consciousness matters,” Humphrey concludes with striking paradox, “because it is its function to matter. Le Muzoo: traveling museum conceived by Sinéangulo stops at Fes. It was initiated by the Caza de Oro artist’s residence in Ariege, in the French Pyrenees. Le Muzoo moves between the UK and Morocco, and will be pitching its tent at the Palais Mokri during the Sacred Music Festival. 3000 pictures recording the setting sun shown in sequence on building facades overnight until the sunrise. – Megumi Matsubara’s set of photography shown as Assistant’s public installation at: ROPPONGI ART NIGHT *Ta so kare / Ka wa tare means “Who is there?” in classical Japanese, each implying the time of sunsetting / sunrising twilight. Blindness & Dreams What do you see when you close your eyes? – Megumi Matsubara will introduce a series of projects developed in Morocco in 2012 that are grounded in the themes of blindness and dreams. Megumi Matsubara & Léo Fabre-Cartier présentent Concert Musical de Oud. The concert takes place linked to UNE CHAMBRE ROUGE; Megumi Matsubara’s work inspired by and dedicated to Fès Medina in Morocco composed of photography, text and music. The students at the blind school (Institut Mohamed 5 for the blind and visually-impaired) have been on strike to claim their rights since October 2012 until now. Based on the theory of Andalusian oud (ancient Arabic instrument) that relates colours to the tones of music, the collected voices and essays about red written in Arabic Braille were translated into the sound of music. POTTERY WORKSHOP WITH BLIND GIRLS / ARTBEAT CAIRO
In her latest solo show RÊVEURS RÊVE RÊVES in Marrakech (Morocco), Megumi Matsubara was strongly inspired by the relationship that she has developed with the blind children she met in Marrakech. Matsubara asked the children what they dreamt of in the night. Through those answers, where neither of them have visual control, she has woven a narrative that can be possessed by all. Book: My Imaginary Lagos
This book contains Matsubara’s photographic work 《My Imaginary Lagos》 and text 《Anchor, Shoes, and Sleep》. Limited to 500 copies, printed in Tangier, Morocco in June 2012. Hand-numbered on the last page. – “Presence/absence” is a recurring discourse in Matsubara’s work. What tells you with certainty that something really exists? Does the act of documentation make it so? Matsubara’s “My Imaginary Lagos” raised these questions. Her photographic oeuvre, made before visiting the city, juxtaposed images of Lagos taken by an acquaintance with Matsubara’s own images of other places. Kime to Kehai: Texture and Sense

The program aims at site-specific production by artists/architects/designers, combined with workshops together with the students of the school. Our project is to build Ghost House, a part of House of 33 Years and homage to Philip Johnson and his Glass House. En reposant la même question, une autre fois, j’avais reçu la clé pour entrer dans leurs mondes secrets. Ils étudient l’anglais et l’informatique. Megumi Matsubara is in Morocco since Jan 2012, with a generous invitation and support of Dar Al-Ma’mûn Foundation (Swiss/Morocco) and will be based in Marrakech for five months spending her time to further develop my spatial language in the fields of art and architecture. Sociological Lunch & its musical experience
Sociological Lunch is a conversation project initiated by Megumi Matsubara to draw an urban landscape based on psychological narratives of its inhabitants. Having started in Tokyo in 2008, it has been expanding to other cities including African cities such as Lagos (2009) and Nairobi (2011). The conversation is always documented and to be translated into music by Finnish composer Ilpo. In 2011, Megumi Matsubara also began DJ-mixing the set of Sociological Lunch music, performing live with Japanese editor Toshiaki Koga.
