TA SO KARE / KA WA TARE

TA SO KARE / KA WA TARE

“My work is creating a blank space where your presence becomes very important. This intimacy makes you care about things that only you can see. Space has nothing to do with physical environment. The only space that exists to me is the space in my mind, in people’s minds, and it’s sharable. All my work is based on this understanding of space.”
                                                                                   ~  Megumi Matsubara

Ta so kare / Ka wa tare means ‘who is there?’ in classical Japanese, each phrase being attached to the light of setting sun or the light of rising sun. The installation at Restaurant Numero 7 captures a sunset over Fès. Matsubara shot 3000 photographs over the course of one and a half hours from the Borj Sud. These were then stretched into a 12-hour film ensuring the same image is never seen twice. The installation will run throughout 2015.

Megumi Matsubara and Restaurant Numero 7 celebrated the New Year in Fès. Using this work as his inspiration, chef Harry Cummins has created a tasting menu of spice-scented dishes cooked over fire.
