ReMap 2 | Athens

Spreading close to Konstantinos & Marianna's office was off-site biennale, ReMap 2. The area is full of trashy buildings temporarily turning into galleries. Very trashy, but lots of happenings, happenings you care.

Community Approved, a pop-up store from NY. Athens is so chilled the store opens at 5pm.

My favourite posters.

On Leonidou street was a building complex of galleries like:

From LA.

From London Vyner Street.

Open Cinema | Athens

There are plenty of open cinemas in Athens.
They are all closed in winter, but who cares, life is too short to let sunny summer evenings pass without open cinemas...

Tracey Moffatt on screen too as part of ReMap 2.

And it all started from here.

Or here I'm sure : open theatre.

Athens Biennale | Heaven

The second Athens Biennale, entitled Heaven was located at several venues including temporary outdoors. Main site is next to Faliron Olympic Complex outside city centre, vast fields of no people.

So hot, a bird also gets dried up on a sculpture.

Photography work by Ettore Sottsass.
A beautiful series of ephemeral architecture and the architect's name's beautiful spelling.

The sound piece YNWA by Michael Gibson was my favourite.

Also was Kenneth Anger video installation.

Paul Chan.

Societe Realiste.

Mark Wallinger.

After the main site, it was a pleasant excursion to continue to coastal side, not focusing too much on finding artwork but on the city's vibe and smell of energy probably coming down all the way from Acropolis. Although from the coast you wouldn't get to see it, you feel it everywhere.

So hot, a water bottle gets dried and squeezed.

But you continue walking until you find orange sunbrellas,

or the real Greek men. Also my favourite game : giant chess.

New Acropolis Museum Opening

At the opening ceremony, facade of the building was choreographed by Dimitris Papaioannou, Greek visual artist who also designed Athens Olympic ceremony.
My most favourite parts were the gigantic face of Athena and the march of mythological animals.
